More school
On
Saturday, July 1st we finished the visits to all our schools, for the
closing ceremonies of the school year and the delivery of the report
cards.
We took the paved road, the most beautiful one.
We
started from the farthest village, Dobere, 55km away. There we had just
under 500 children attend school. We moved on with Barka Bongo, a small
school with 54 students, then Bawi with 387 and Mbormo, with 185.
All
schools had a festive atmosphere: this included a few songs, a few
poems, and then the excitement of knowing who has passed to the next
grade. Here they call the students who are promoted so that all can
hear.
On
Sunday I went to celebrate Mass in Igwe, a very small village in the
middle of the savannah and woods: there were about fifteen huts, and a
road that winded through tall grass, termite mounds and trees. On the
way I found a fallen tree, and was thankful for having brought the ax,
with which I was able to cut it down and open the road myself.
