Young people, saints and containers
8 November 2025
I'm a little late, because... I'll explain later!
From 30 October to 2 November, we had planned the Youth Jubilee in Lanome, 35 km away. But we couldn't go because the Mission truck had problems. So we stayed in Bangassou, where a few hundred young people gathered for four days of reflection, prayer, and much joy.
The feast of 1 November, which celebrates All Saints, helped us to involve young men and women in the wonder that is the call to holiness. God loves us and makes our lives wonderful, if we want him to!
On Saturday 31st, we experienced the joy of the Jubilee: a time to ask God for forgiveness, with confessions, and then a short pilgrimage to the Cathedral, which we entered through the Holy Door, an image of Christ, who brings us into the heart of God.
These days, Daniela, a volunteer midwife, continues her work at our hospital's maternity ward. She has a lot of work to do, as well as training the staff at the facility.
On Monday, 3rd November, I leave for Bangui, where I will stay for a week.
I arrive at Carmel, where I have the joy of finding all the Carmelites who work in Central Africa, gathered with the Provincial (Fr. Federico) and his Council, who have been visiting for almost two weeks.
We pray together, with a beautiful celebration on Monday evening, in the chapel of the new convent. There is still much work to be done, but some of my brothers are already sleeping here, and they wanted to start everything, as St Teresa of Jesus did, by placing Jesus in the Eucharist in the tabernacle.
I am also sleeping here, in this new convent! How wonderful, after so much hard work!
On Wednesday morning, Mons Aguirre and two volunteers from the Bangassou Foundation, Miguel (his brother) and Rafael, arrive from Spain.
They are here because two containers, which left Spain a year ago, have finally arrived... after being stuck at the port of Douala (Cameroon) for nine months!
The roads to Bangassou are in terrible condition, and we will have to wait until January to send the container. For this reason, we have to empty the two containers, select the materials, reload one container, and send the rest by another lorry!
It is precious material! There are medicines, hospital equipment, school supplies, food for orphans and schools, solar panels... Behind every package and every crate there is a lot of work, a lot of commitment and a lot of love!
Thank you, Bangassou Foundation!
