Today is December 1st: 64 years ago to the day when the Central African Republic was proclaimed, and would become independent two years later, on August 13th 1960.
It's a very heartfelt holiday, "The" national holiday.
Today, traditionally, in many cities of the country there are moments of celebration. Where possible, there is the "défilé": the parade of students, soldiers, associations, parties, companies and anyone who organizes and wants and can exhibit.
The parade is prepared well in advance: from the beginning of November, two or three times a week, the streets are blocked to allow rehearsals, especially for schools. This means that the schools, from November to Christmas, work in fittings and rehearsals. The streets, in November, are often closed because it occurs to no one that the practices can also be done elsewhere, perhaps in the courtyards of the schools themselves... And what's more, for years, the date of December 1st has not always been the date of the parade, which is often moved to another day (according to the needs or whims of the authorities).
This morning, here in Baoro, the ceremony began around 9: arrival of the authorities, singing of the national anthem, military parade, and the beginning of the parade. The cutest are always the nursery school children, who from the ages of 3 and 4 march with great determination, and some cute mistakes.
We are now in the middle of the dry season, and from now until March or April there won't be any more rain.
Unlike the social and political climate, which remains very cloudy.
On Monday a Russian military base suffered an air attack in Bossangoa.
On Tuesday, a car with Chinese people aboard (probably looking for gold) was attacked: one soldier was killed, another wounded, and the two Chinese were taken hostage. This occured on the road to Niem, 40 km from Bouar (and 100 from Baoro).
For more than 6 months now, fuel has been unobtainable on the official market (but it can be found, with almost doubled prices, on the black market).
