News in Baoro

The travels and news continue.

Last Thursday, August 3, I went down again to Bangui with Fr. Davide, to see the construction site of the new convent.

On Friday the 4th Jana Škubalová arrived (the director of Siriri.OPS, the Prague NGO that has been helping us for years) together with Thameur Debouba: they came to Central Africa for 2 professional development courses for the elementary school teachers. The sessions will take place in Baoro (from Monday, August 7th) and in Bossemptele, the following week. Between the two sessions, more than 150 teachers will be trained in the "apprendre en jouant" ("learning by playing") method, which will allow a new approach to teaching.

We left Bangui early on Saturday morning, and before 12 we were in Baoro.

Sunday, August 6th was the feast of the Transfiguration.  It is a great celebration for the parish of Baoro,  it was Fr. Arland Djim Togan first service as the new parish priest.

The bishop came to preside over the Mass, during which the new pastor renewed his commitment to serve the Church in Baoro. He accompanied it with some simple gestures that highlighted the work that the parish priest has to face:

- He had him sit in the celebrant's chair (because he will preside over the liturgical celebrations and lead the prayer)

- He entrusted him with the keys of the Tabernacle, to signify the strong bond with the Eucharist

- Accompanied him to the confessional, a sign of his commitment to the sacrament of Reconciliation

 - He had him ring the bell: it is the voice that calls to common prayer

- He had him open the church, because the parish priest is the guardian of the parish

It was a very beautiful celebration, with singing and dancing, and many priests and confreres who came for this occasion. There were also the catechists, counselors and many of the Christians committed to supporting the parish priest in his service.

We finished the Mass after "only" 3 hours, and concluded the party with a big lunch: we were more than 100 people gathered for this moment of joy and sharing.

Good job, Fr Arland!
