"We cannot be silent about what we have seen and heard" (Acts 4:20)

On Sunday, October 24th the Church celebrated World Mission Day: a day of prayer and action for the splendid reality of the Mission, and above all a day of thanksgiving for this dimension of our baptism.

The theme was: “We cannot be silent about what we have seen and heard”: it was Peter and John, arrested because they spoke of Jesus, of His death and Resurrection. In front of the priests and the powerful who threatened them and wanted to silence them, Peter had the courage to say “We cannot keep silent with what we have seen and heard.” Interesting courage, he who out of fear had betrayed Jesus, but the Holy Spirit got the better of his fear and intimidation.

On Sunday I went to celebrate Mission Day in one of the smaller villages: Igwe. Sixty kilometers of road, of which the last 15 turned into a path in the forest.

It was a small village with only 12 houses. Where the small number of Christians was not discouraging, we celebrated, prayed and sang with joy and determination.

I left around noon, and it took me 2 hours to get to Baoro.

At 3 pm, I completed the Missionary Day with a moment of celebration: the Peuls of Baoro invited me to the celebration of the birthday of the Prophet, Mohammed.

There are almost 3,000 people who have returned to Central Africa after a few years living as refugees in neighboring countries. They had to flee in 2014, due to the war, and now they settled here in Baoro.

Before leaving, I took 2 boxes of notebooks: this was an excellent idea, because, once I arrived at the party, the boys and girls presented the results of the Quran school, with recitation and dialogues on parts of the Quran. Lastly, an imam of theirs gave a speech, and invited the boys and girls to attend primary school.

On Monday I left for Bangui, and took advantage of the trip to visit some of our schools: it was a sight to find the classrooms full.

In Bangui, work on the new Carmel convent is moving along, and I am joining in on the weekly construction site meeting.
