Celebration of 50 years of the Carmelites in Baoro
Last week I presented the story of the Baoro Mission (big thanks to the translators!).
On Thursday, October 5th we started the celebrations.
For the occasion we invited the people of Baoro and the surronding villages for 3 days of catechesis, reflection, meetings and celebration: the "Conférence".
On Thursday, under the pouring rain, the Christians of Baoro welcomed the people of the villages, who had arrived on foot, by motorbike, by bicycle, by truck... In the afternoon I went twice to the village of Pate Bonambolo, 17 km away, to help the delegations from the most distant villages (the truck that was supposed to transport them had broken down).
On Friday and Saturday there were moments of catechesis: the church was full, with around 350 people. There were also fathers from other missions (Fr. Stefano and Fr. Christo from Bangui, Fr. Marcello from Yole and Fr. Mesmin from Bouar). Other fathers and nuns and missionaries in Baoro, sent audio or written messages: Fr Carlo, Fr Giuseppe Agosteo, Sister Biagina.
In addition to catechesis, there were moments of prayer and celebration. But we also had to think about giving everyone a roof over their heads and something to eat!
On Saturday afternoon there were confessions, and then the "offering dance" ("dodo ti dimes"): a festive way of contributing to the expenses of the party, with a small gift.
Sunday morning there was the great Mass presided over by the bishop. On October 8th, 50 years ago Fr. Carlo arrived here in Baoro, with a very simple beginning. A small seed, which slowly started to bear the first fruits.
